Making windows part of the solution

At VELFAC, we recognise the need to limit our impact on the environment, and this is reflected in the choice of materials and manufacturing processes that are employed to produce our windows and doors. For example, we understand in the importance of avoiding unnecessary waste of resources both during manufacturing and at the end of our windows and doors life cycle.

Reusable design

93% of the components in a VELFAC window can be recycled. Thanks to our recyclable windows construction, we support circular material flows and contribute to the reduction of  the need for extracting, refining and processing raw materials.

Contributing to a sustainable future

We believe every action, big or small, can make a change and lead to a more sustainable future

Precision cutting technology in our factories minimises the amount of waste as much as possible, and residual wood and sawdust are collected for recycling or used to heat our factories.

Our windows have an expected lifespan of up to 60 years if maintained properly.

This helps to reduce the turnover of building materials and therefore reduce the carbon footprint on the environment.

2/3 of the aluminium used in VELFAC profiles is manufactured using renewable energy sources, and approx. 40% comes from recycled sources.

Minimising our production impact on the enviorment

Sustainable manufacturing is the creation of manufactured products that use a process to minimise negative environmental impacts, conserve energy and natural resources, are safe for employees, communities and consumers.

Sustainable mindset in manufacturing

At VELFAC we understand the importance of embracing a sustainable mindset in manufacturing, and we can provide guidance and documentation on:

  • ISO9001 accreditation of our manufacturing facilities and ISO14001 accreditation of our Environmental Management and Audit System
  • Details of our water-based wood treatments
  • Proof that we use recycled aluminium in external frames, and that a big part of the aluminium is produced using renewable energy sources
  • VELFAC glass suppliers run detailed environmental management systems
  • Environmental declaration detailing our cradle to grave approach to sustainable manufacture and performance

Our triple-glazed windows, VELFAC ENERGY deliver U-values as low as 0.8 and contribute to reducing heat loss and CO2-emissions from buildings. Our windows have been used in some of the most sustainable leading building projects in Denmark. Furthermore, our windows are suitable for use in LEED-, BREEAM- and DGNB-certified buildings. They can also be used in Nordic Ecolabelled buildings and qualify for the Indoor Climate Label (DIM).

Certified products and processes

As part of our commitment to quality we have developed and documented our procedures to gain BS EN ISO 9001 accreditation. We were originally registered in July 1995; since then, regular Quality System Reviews have been undertaken to ensure documentation, procedures and processes are being implemented and where possible, improved upon to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
